Mind-blowing Reminder of the Day
The United States’ accumulation of federal crimes is 50 volumes, over 23,000 pages in length; and while the exact number of laws is unknown, it is easily over 10,000. The number of prisoners per capita in the US is ~715 per 100,000 people, for a total of over 2 million imprisoned. Seems as though the fear of punishment via incarceration as a method to discourage unwanted behavior...

"S&P downgrades euro zone rescue fund, Greece... →
Remember how S&P downgraded the credit ratings of 9 EU countries a few days ago? Well, today they also downgraded the credit rating of the EFSF, the bailout fund created to keep EU countries from going under. Sounds like the whole “buy-debt-with-more-debt” thing isn’t working. Hmmm… Ya think?

S&P Downgrades the Credit Ratings of 9 Countries →
“A total of 9 countries have been downgraded: Austria, France, Malta, Slovakia and Slovenia have all been cut by one-notch. Cyprus, Italy, Portugal and Spain have been cut by two notches.” “S&P has also warned that austerity alone will not fix Europe’s financial problems.” It’s getting serious, folks.

Monsanto Now Owns Blackwater (Xe) →
No wonder that a company engaged in the “science of death” as Monsanto, which has been dedicated from the outset to produce toxic poisons spilling from Agent Orange to PCBs (polychlorinated biphenyls), pesticides, hormones and genetically modified seeds, is associated with another company of thugs. Almost simultaneously with the publication of this article in The Nation, the Via Campesina...

It’s Official: U.S. Government Debt Equals GDP
lost-and-searching-in-america: “The soaring national debt has reached a symbolic tipping point: It’s now as big as the entire U.S. economy. The amount of money the federal government owes to its creditors, combined with IOUs to government retirement and other programs, now tops $15.23 trillion.” (USA Today)

Banks can't keep up with foreclosures anymore →
rtamerica: With an economy in ruins, how many foreclosures do banks have to deal with nowadays? Enough that the process of dealing with homeowners in default is taking years to complete.
